In 2009 KPCF debuted their newly formed dance company - Kilohana in NA Ali'i: A tribute to Hawaiian Monarchy, a major performance at the John Anson Ford Amphitheatre, Hollywood, CA to a sell-out crowd who experienced the moving performance of Kilohana as they told the story of the kings and queens of Hawai’i.
The compelling saga of monarchs from King Kamehameha to Queen Lili’uokalani, expressed through the eloquent language of hula….set to live music by renowned Hawaiian Island musicians.
Kilohana’s dancers touch hearts and stir emotions with their strikingly colorful visuals and the sounds of Hawai’i. Thirty-five dancers from Southern California’s finest hula (schools) halau perform traditional hula and chants.
